The Streets of Sacramento. Empty

Raine's footsteps on the sidewalk echoed in his ears, his concealed weapons tapping lightly against him. People took one look at Raine, his unkempt hair, his dirty clothes, his upturned collar, and they avoided him, sometimes going as far as crossing the street. He didn't care. He probably wouldn't have cared if they'd thrown things at him. Raine paid less attention to them than they did to him.

To be honest, Raine wasn't sure why he liked going out for walks so much. He could be using the time much more efficiently looking at records he'd managed to steal or scrounge up, or try to make connections between the victims' Objects, or something. But instead, he was out here, walking around while people looked at him like he was a pariah. Why? He'd like to think that he enjoyed the open air, or just being outside, but that wasn't true. He preferred being inside, where he could try to find the murderer. No, the real reason was far more pathetic, but one he couldn't shake nonetheless: Raine hoped against all hope that he would just run into him on the street.

Recognizing him instantly, Raine would draw his sword and slice him across the back. He would tell the killer what he'd done, brandishing Thunder's sword. The murderer would beg for his life, pleading and sniveling, but Raine wouldn't hear any of it. He'd stab the killer in the chest straight away, and the assassin would beg for Raine's forgiveness with his dying breath.

That was how Raine wanted it to happen. He dreamed every night about the moment, about when he would finally be able to look upon the butcher's face before killing him. Maybe he would cut a hole in his chest, keeping him alive the whole time. That's what the police had said about Joan- she was still alive when the killer cut through her chest.

Someone bumped into him, snapping Raine out of his thoughts. A kid, no older than thirteen or fourteen, was skipping happily on. He had curly red hair, and he was eating an apple. Ignoring him, Raine continued walking, slipping back into his fantasies.

Chael wandered happily through the very bad part of town. He looked around at all the strip clubs, pimps, prostitutes and druggies. The druggies were the most interesting to watch. He also seemed to be having a hard time keeping his eyes off of the prostitutes, though he wasn't quite sure why. All they were doing was flashing body parts not usually flashed. It reminded him of a woman that used to live with his parents. Both the druggies and the prostitutes, but that's not what he was here for. He leaned against a wall and closed his eyes, going down into himself, yet increasing his awareness. He felt for the presence of an object. Someone here would have one, someone Praetorius wanted to kill. He felt it about two blocks to his right. His grey eyes shone bright as they snapped open and a wide grin spread across his face. He turned and skipped down the block, his hand in his coat readying one of his needles. He's make sure to give him a large dose, it was possible that the man also took drugs, and that his system might have a slight resistance. He finally spotted his prey accross the street. He skipped up to the man and waved. "Hi! Um, can you help me? I'm lost." He put on an innocent smile and stealthily removed the needle from his coat as he looked up at the man sweetly.

Kyle Light looked at the little boy in mild surprise. Who the hell was this? Maybe it was one of the hooker's kids, he was pretty skinny. If it was he was probably some kinda diversion. He pushed red headed boy back. "Look, whatever you want I probably can't help you so get the hell out of here okay?" The boy did look awful clean for a prostitute's kid though. Maybe he was also a prostitute? The thought didn't bother Kyle. He didn't particularly like the idea but he'd seen way worse than that. The kid was back up to him though, looking hurt.

"But...please. I need to find my hotel and I don't know what to do." Chael looked up at him with all the vulnerableness one could muster. The man would probably push him again, and that's when he would strike.

"Look you little shit, you're in the wrong part of town, leave me the hell alone," Kyle Light did push the boy again, but this time he felt something stab into his wrist. "Ah! What the fu-" Kyle's sentence was immediately interrupted by a horrible bout of projectile vomiting. Chael stepped back grinning wide then walked away as Kyle fell back against the wall, choking on vomit and then foam that came from inside him. Kyle died, coughing and sputtering near the entrance to an alleyway. People noticed, but no one cared.

Kathryn Andrews lay back in her bathtub after a long day's work. Crunching numbers was a stressful job but she did enjoy it. She also enjoyed money. She looked around at her beautiful bathroom, out the door into her beautiful hallway. She had a nice house, a great job, and all to herself too. It was a great life she had made for herself. However, it was decidedly humdrum. That was why she had gotten the object. It had spiced things up greatly. She had considered getting another from time to time, more than considered really. Sometimes it was like an itch that HAD to be immediatley scratched, unfortunately she had nothing to scratch with. She had no idea how to get another object, none at all. It was alright with her though. She was busy lately, and the one was enough...wasn't it? Of course it was. She leaned back again and closed her eyes. Ten minutes ticked by as she relaxed in the warm water and listened to music. Suddenly she was aware of a certain...presence. She opened her eyes to see a red headed young boy standing in the doorway of her bathroom. He was looking at her oddly. She sat up angrily, water and suds sloshing around as she covered her chest. "What in God's name are you doing in here?!"

Chael smiled his sweet poisonous smile at her. "Hello! I'm Chael. You're Kathryn right?" he walked with a bounce in his step towards the bathtub. He was slightly distracted by the woman's chest area for some reason. He frowned briefly but continued, pulling out the syringe and sticking it into her neck in one fluid motion.

"W-well yes I am but-HEY!" she yelled, smacking at the boy's arm but it was too late. The boy watched her as she began spasming. He had been kind to the woman, in a way. It was a far more painful poison, but it didn't make you vomit all over yourself. The woman began to seize violently, water splashing out of the tub and onto the floor. She bit her tounge in her thrashing and blood began trickling from her mouth ever so slightly. Her head smacked against the marble of her bathtub repeatedly as she let out bursts of a gutteral noise that was her trying to scream. Chael watched as her seizures slowed and finally stopped. She began to sink below the water but he reached in and pulled her up. His hands were gloved, so this wouldn't create a problem later. He looked over the woman's naked body. Why so appealing all of a sudden? He shrugged and let the body sink once more. He stopped to take a look at himself in a full length mirror though. He turned around full circle. He didn't seem to be that much different. He was growing of course, but aside from that...He pulled out an empty syringe and took a sample of his blood. Perhaps that would help him answer his question. He smiled once again and skipped out of the small mansion. Stopping briefly in the kitchen to collect some apples before climbing out the window and re-enabling the security fence. Praetorius would surely enjoy having his work done for him.
